I have bought the rights and parts from Lee Holman in 2006/7and I am in the process of restoring/rebuilding the car. If interested I can email pictures of the progress. Also, I am in the Shelby registry. I have also bought other project GT40 from Lee.

I would love to publish those photos here if you would allow it. Please send all GT40 photos with as much documentation as possible as to photos/chassis # details to mrrbob at gmail dot com. Send large photos if possible for better quality. Photos will be watermarked & attributed to you using first name and last initial and published here on the correct chassis number page or chassis number photo group.

Early cars were simply named “Ford GT”. The name “GT40″ was the name of Ford’s project to prepare the cars for the international endurance racing circuit, and the quest to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The first 12 “prototype” vehicles carried serial numbers GT-101 through GT-112. The “production” began and the subsequent cars, the MkI, MkII, and MkIIIs,( with the exception of the MkIV, which were numbered J1-J10)were numbered GT40P/1000 through GT40P/1145, were officially “GT40s”.

This according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_GT40. I don’t really care as the cutaways are a form of art. if one of them is a Mk.IV or maybe a Ford G7A Can Am car, built in 1969 using the J-car chassis well so be it.

You mean the GT40 replicas? Those are simply for people like me who don’t have over 1 million to buy a real GT40. If built correctly they can be quite fast. Even people who may own a real GT40 but may be rowdy race drivers (like me) may want to build and drive a nice fast replica so they don’t wreck a real GT40 that is part of history.

Remember, imitation is a form of flattery and I think of the replica GT40 cars as tributes to the real GT40 cars. Hope you can appreciate them for what they are. I am only going to publish minimal information about the replica cars on this site but I do believe they have their place. I would like to own a well done example and so would many others.

I have pictures (2 black an white) of this car at “Rally du Limousin” in march or april 1966.
I have a number of pictures (color and b&w) of GT40, MKII and MkIV at le mans 1966 and 1967
